Tips To Become A Pro Camera Operator

How To Be a Better Camera Operator

The Camera Operator’s Mindset

Being diverse, responsible, flexible, enthusiastic and creative are just a few of the values you’ll need to succeed as a camera operator. In this part, I’ll be talking all about how what goes on up here *points to head* directly effects what’s happening around you. So… let’s go! Don’t switch off here because you think this might be boring, yes I’m not offering advice on operating itself, that will come later – this stuff is fundamental.

  1. Know Your Craft:

Elevate yourself beyond mediocre. The world’s full of mediocre people…be outstanding! You’re a professional camera operator, make it part of your identity, be proud of it. Learn everything you can about your craft and master it…and I don’t mean dabble in it…I mean really master your craft. Become a recognized expert and you will always be in demand.

  1. Offer Creative Input

There’s nothing worse than just standing behind the camera waiting to be told what to do, it’s just not good enough. Producers and Directors need your creative input; they need enthusiasm and endless suggestions on how something can be shot, improved and enhanced so that it massively exceeds their original concept. Its part of your job, so always provide masses of creative input whenever and however you can!

* This does depend on the type of production you are working on. In documentaries it’s quite common to go straight to the director with your ideas and suggestions, on drama that is not the correct etiquette where you would instead discuss ideas with the Director of Photography (DoP).

  1. Go the Extra Mile

This is hot on the heels of rule No.2. Don’t just do what you have to or what you think you should do.  Your job is to go above and beyond. Don’t be lazy, make a tremendous effort, even if you’ve been working nonstop for 16 hours, find something within yourself to make that extra effort, uphold your professional standards, do whatever it takes to produce the best possible results you can. Nothing should be too much trouble…it won’t go unnoticed by those higher up the ladder.

CAMERA OPERATOR – TOP 3 DON’TS FOR A CAMERA OPERATOR

Do not forget the audio

60% for most shows are sound. Audio is usually more post-production problems than any other aspect of the shoot. As a cameraman you May you think you do not have to worry about audio. Nothing could be further from the truth. You are responsible -. Especially in one camera shoots for audio

Do not come to the job search unprofessional

just because they are behind the camera does not mean that you can show up in search of any way you want. It is important to wear appropriate clothing, come to work clean and ready to go. I saw a good camera operators will be canceled from the set due to a lack of professionalism.

Do not act like they know everything

Leave this part of the director and / or producer of events at which you work. While it is true that you can learn more in one aspect or another, do not act like they are above them on fire. This will only lead to a struggle for power that you lose 99% of the time.

WHEN IN DOUBT, KEEP MOVING

There are times when responsiveness is the key to getting a shot, usually in a situation where you’re shooting either very emotional or action-packed material. Keeping your hands moving a little bit on the wheels, in the case of a geared head, or keeping your hand in motion on the pan handle, in the case of a fluid head, can speed up your responsiveness. I learned this trick originally from a sound mixer, who always wiggled his hands on the mixer knobs during takes. I asked him why, and he told me that it is much easier to move your hands quickly in response to a loud noise if they are already moving. If your hands are standing still it can take longer to react. He never wiggled his hands on the knobs enough to affect sound levels, but if he had to turn them quickly his hands were already in motion.

Camera operator skills

Certain skills are essential if you want camera operator jobs.

Here are the important traits you must master.

  • Have good working knowledge of all camera systems, lenss, support equipment and accessories.
  • Have a good sense of visual composition, perspective, and movement.
  • Pay close attention to detail.
  • Be able to collaborate and work as part of a team.
  • Be diplomatic and sensitive when working with artists and other crew members.
  • Be informed about health and safety set procedures.
  • Be able to multi-task. To watch, listen and think on your feet while carrying out intricate technical tasks.

Have you ever thought “I wonder how to make a movie”? Do you possess a true passion for making films? When you watch TV and movies, do you find yourself coming up with behind-the-scenes ideas for making them even better? If so, a movie production career as a cameraman might be for you! Here are three steps on how to become a cameraman in the film and video industry.

WHAT IS A CAMERAMAN?

In the film and video production industry, a cameraman is responsible for recording moving images for TV broadcasts and movies. This technical professional records TV content for commercials, news and broadcast programming.

In a television studio, a cameraman’s duty is to keep the subject steady within the camera frame. A news cameraman who works out in the field records bystander and witness interviews, correspondent comments and the activities of the news team.

Cameramen are also responsible for shooting movies, commercials and television programs. This requires framing and composing shots and choosing lenses, film and filters, plus setting up conditions for lighting. These cameramen work very closely with crew members and directors during shoots. In short, being a camerman is a very important role when learning how to make a movie, or launching a movie production career. As you can already see, there are many different careers in film, and being a cameraman is a very important position!

3 STEPS ON HOW TO BECOME A CAMERAMAN

To become a cameraman, of course you need passion for the film industry itself. But, in order to be successful in your movie production career as a cameraman, you’ll need three key elements:

  • Career training as a cameraman from film school
  • A successfully completed internship as a cameraman
  • Effective cameraman job hunting skills (Career Development skills)

Trick To Find The Best Sewer Inspection

Sewer Inspection and Why It Should Be Done?

What is a sewer inspection?

This is an inspection done by a camera attached to a snake line. The video camera records the state of the sewer, revealing any cracks, tree roots, collapsed lines, clogs and other problems inside the sewer.

When should I get a sewer inspection?

Many people get sewer inspections when they’re serious about buying a new home. It’s a good idea to get a sewer inspection done if your home is showing signs of a sewer backup or if your home has had sewer clogs in the past and you’d like to know how your sewer is doing.

Sewer Repairs Can Be Extremely Expensive

You might wonder, “Do I need a sewer line inspection before buying a house?” The answer is yes. A sewer inspection should be a mandatory part of your house inspection checklist. When considering what inspections to get when buying a house, do not overlook the sewer line. In fact, getting a sewer inspection is one of the most important home inspection tips for first-time buyers. Sewer line inspections are cheap, but sewer repairs can be extremely expensive. Why spend the money on a repair when you could have avoided with a simple inspection?

There’s no such thing as a typical cost for repairing your sewer lines. It can start at a few hundred dollars to snake out a blockage. Or, it could be tens of thousands of dollars to excavate your yard and replace the pipes. The repair bills depend on the sewer line condition, the problem’s location and the root cause.

No pun intended, but speaking of roots, tree roots are the primary cause of blocked sewer lines. Fortunately, roots are easy to find with a closed-circuit television inspection. Unfortunately, they can be very expensive to dig up and clear out. Having the sewer line scoped should be on your house-buying inspection checklist. In fact, you can’t afford not to inspect the sewer line before closing your house purchase deal.

What to Expect During Sewer Inspection

When you hire a professional with the proper equipment to perform your sewer inspection, you can rest easy knowing the job will be done right. The best drain and sewer cleaning technicians follow a specific series of steps to ensure your sewer line is clean and in proper working condition.

  • For homeowners that are already living in their house, inspections start with a thorough cleaning and clearing of the sewer mainline. Even if you don’t suspect a blockage, clearing the line prevents any future buildup and makes it easier for the video cable to navigate the pipes.
  • The most important step in sewer inspection is the use of a specialized video camera to examine the interior of your main line. The video camera is attached to a long line of tubing which can be fed into the sewer pipes. On the surface, the technician can watch a screen to view exactly what the camera sees in real-time, searching for any signs of blockage or damage.
  • After the video inspection, your technician will provide you with a comprehensive report. The recording of your sewer line can also be saved and reviewed at a later date, if need be. Depending on the condition of the main line, repair or replacement solutions can be discussed.

Understanding the condition of a home’s sewer system allows you to make an educated purchase. If the house you’re looking to purchase has significant sewer line problems, it might be more cost-effective to pursue a different listing. At the very least, you’ll either want the current owner to fix the issues before closing or lower their asking price by an appropriate amount.

Here are three reasons why you should schedule a sewer inspection today:

  1. Repairs are Expensive
Inspections are relatively inexpensive and can be done quickly. On the other hand, sewer line replacements can be very expensive and are often not covered by your insurance because it’s the result of natural wear and tear. In addition to monetary costs, sewer backups can be messy and dangerous – causing flooding and leaking toxic sewer gas. Often, an inspection can detect a problem before it causes irreparable damage. When small leaks and clogs go unfixed, replacement is often eventually required.
  2. Roots Love Sewer Lines
Tree roots are constantly seeking a good source of water and nutrients, so it’s not surprising that they are attracted to sewer lines. Roots sneak into tiny openings and then expand over time, blocking flow and ultimately causing damage. If left unattended, pipes can be damaged and require excavation to repair. If you have trees or large shrubs anywhere near your sewer line, you should have regular inspections.
  3. Natural Wear and Tear Happens
Even new sewer systems can spring leaks and get blocked from time-to-time, but older systems have a much higher risk. Older homes may have been constructed prior to modern city sewer systems, relying on cesspools, clay, or tar paper. These old systems erode and collapse over time. If you’re not sure of the type of sewer system your home has and the state it’s in, it’s a good idea to have an inspection.

How to Inspect a Sewer Line

When you are setting up your home inspections before you close on a purchase, simply call a plumbing company and ask if the contractor can use a camera to inspect the sewer. Your real estate agent might be able to refer several companies to you.

The plumbing company will insert a snake attached to a small video camera into the clean-out. The snake will maneuver the camera through the sewer, and you can watch the resulting images on a monitor. Not only will the plumbing company find out if the sewer line is clean or clogged, but the inspection will also disclose the overall condition of the sewer.

Ask the contractor to tell you what kind of material was used to construct the sewer line. Find out whether that type of material is still considered to be good construction today. Sewer lines can be made up of different materials, including Orangeburg, clay, cast iron, and PVC.

The Safety Ways To Switches Installation

Tips for Identifying Light Switches in Your Home

Switch Designs

Switches also come in several designs:

  • Push-Button Switches. Push-button designs are less common than others. This design sports a button that connects or disconnects the circuit when pushed. Some models offer spring-loaded designs that return buttons to their original position after being pushed. Other push-button switches stay depressed when pushed and click back to their original position when the circuit is disconnected.
  • Toggle Switches. Toggle switches are the most common. Toggle designs use a lever that’s angled in an on or off position. Moving the toggle up or down connects or disconnects the circuit.
  • Selector Switches. These switches include a rotary knob or lever that allows users to select different lighting settings. Selector switches also come in a two-mode design. Two-mode selector switches normally only offer an on or off setting.
  • Proximity Switches. Proximity switches use motion-sensing technology to switch lights on or off. Motion-sensing designs are popular in modern and energy-conscious homes and businesses. Proximity switches vary in terms of customization and out-of-the-box features.
  • Photoelectric Switches. Photoelectric switches use a sensor to measure the level of light in a room and adjust the lights accordingly. Streetlights and light posts are common photoelectric applications. But recent innovations have outfitted residential lighting with similar technology. Many homeowners use photoelectric lightings for porches and backyards.
  • Dimmer Light Switches. Dimmer switches allow you to find the ideal amount of light for any setting. The dimmer design is perfect for living rooms, dining rooms, and other areas of your home that call for ambiance. Some dimmers require special bulbs. Be sure to speak to a professional before installing dimmers.

Tips for Identifying Wires in your Switch Wall Box

  • An easy way to identify the wires in your wall box is by looking at the color.
  • The Load wire is usually coming from the top of the box. The Line wire is usually coming from the bottom of the box.
  • Before removing the switch, test each wire with a voltage tester.
  • If you’re replacing a current 3-way switch, make sure to mark which wires are connected to the brass screws. Those are the traveler wires and are not needed for the C by GE Smart Switch.

Find Hidden Command Line Silent Switches for Setup Files

If you want to Install a piece of software, it’s obviously very easy to do generally speaking. Just run the setup file, agree to the license agreement, select destination location to install, confirm the program’s shortcut location, create desktop and tray icon, and finally install. It looks like many steps are involved but we usually just ignore all those and continue clicking Next until the setup completes. Obviously, these days you have to be a bit more careful because of all the extra options during installation such as installing toolbars etc, but it’s still pretty fast and easy with common sense applied.

Installing an application one time on your computer is not a problem but what if you have just installed Windows and have loads to install? Or worse still, what if you need to install applications on several computers? Sitting there and installing each program manually can be frustrating and a huge waste of time and something you’re not going to enjoy doing. Do we all want an easier solution? Of course we do!

The useful things is, there are hidden command line switches in most installer packages or setup files which be can used to bypass all those confirmation message boxes. With these commands you can install just about anything automatically, if you know the commands to use. Some software developers will include the command line switches in their documentation but many do not and you have to search the internet to find what they are.

Ways to Screw up a Switch Installation

In its simplest form, an electrical switch is a humble device. For example, a single-pole, single-throw 15A snap switch consists of a pair of electrical contacts that can be opened or closed manually. A snap switch is spring loaded so that it opens and closes quickly, minimizing arcing, which otherwise would burn the contacts. Of course there are more elaborate types of switches, including:

  • Double-pole, which are capable of simultaneously switching two ungrounded conductors such as in a 240V circuit.
  • Triple-pole, for 3-phase circuits.
  • Electrically or pneumatically powered switches for very large loads.
  • 3- and 4-way switches, which permit users to control a load from more than one location.
  • Circuit breakers, which provide overcurrent protection as well as a switching function.
  • Molded-case switches that resemble circuit breakers. They plug into an entrance panel and pick up power from the bus bars(s) but do not offer overcurrent protection.
  • Isolating switches, which are not intended to interrupt a load.

All non-utility switch installations in residential, commercial, and industrial settings must meet National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements where enacted. In most jurisdictions, the finished installation is inspected prior to use. Since switches are a very visible part of the installation, the electrical inspector almost always sees misapplications and NEC violations because they are out in the open. This gallery features some of the more common violations in switch installations.

How to replace a light switch

Never take risks with electrical safety. Before you start any type of electrical work, you must follow these following safety precautions:

Remember to switch off the mains power at the consumer unit/fuse box. Isolate the circuit you plan to work on by removing the circuit fuse. Put this in your pocket to avoid accidental replacement

Or switch off the breaker and lock it if you can

Attach a note to the unit to advise you are working on the circuit.

Check the circuit is dead with a socket tester or voltage tester/meter for lighting circuits. These confirm whether circuits are dead and safe to work on

Check all finished work with a socket tester (or voltage tester for lighting circuits) before using

For your safety, these products must be installed in accordance with local Building Regulations. If in any doubt, or where required by the law, consult a competent person who is registered with an electrical certification scheme. Further information is available online or from your local authority.

Be cautious when opening up multi-way switches. The lights they control should take power from the same circuit, but if yours are incorrectly wired and take power from different circuits, there will be live cables at each switch position when one circuit is isolated. There is more than one method of wiring multi-way lights. If yours does not match the system shown here, that doesn’t necessarily mean they are unsafe.

Use Circuit Breakers To Make A Safe Electric

The importance of circuit breakers in the home

Many homes still use traditional fuses but they can be replaced with an essential safety feature called the circuit breaker. The main function of a circuit breaker is to detect any faulty condition in the electrical system and discontinue the flow of electricity to ensure safety. Many properties have been destroyed and lives lost due to short circuits that could have been aborted in time if there were circuit breakers

A short circuit can be defined as an abnormal low resistance current that is in between two nodes of an electrical circuit that is meant to have different voltages. When there is an excess flow of electric current, it can cause circuit damage that can lead to overheating and in some instances to an electrical fire. The main reason for short circuits is overloading but this can be avoided through circuit breakers that will detect the faulty condition. Generally, circuit breakers are more expensive than fuses but it is an investment that can protect your life and property.

Types of Circuit Breaker and Its Importance

There is a broad range of circuit breakers available, which depend upon the voltage, installation, external design, placement, and breaking mechanism.

Here are the different types of circuit breakers:

  • Air Circuit Breaker:

Air Circuit Breakers operates in the air with their arcing contacts exposed. These arcing contacts quench at a given level of atmospheric pressure.  In a lot of countries, the air circuit breakers are generally replaced by oil circuit breakers.
Types of air circuit breakers:

1)Plain Air Circuit Breaker:
Plain Air circuit breakers are also called as Cross-Blast Circuit Breaker. These circuit breakers are fitted with a chamber( arc chute) which surrounds the contacts.

2)Air Blast Circuit Breaker:
These Circuit Breakers are used for a system voltage of 245 KV to 420 KV and more. Air Blast Circuit Breakers are generally of two types: Axial blast breaker and Axial blast with sliding moving contact.

  • Molded Case Circuit Breaker:

The traditional circuit breakers use electromechanical trip unit which may be either interchangeable or fixed. A molded case circuit breaker helps in providing support by bringing together a temperature-sensitive device with a current-sensitive electromagnetic device. Once the mechanism trips, both the circuit breakers start working automatically.

  • Miniature circuit breaker:

Unlike fuses, MCB protects light switches, equipments, circuits, etc. and operates as an automatic switch that opens or breaks the connection when the current flowing through the circuit is excessive. Once the circuit returns to normal, it can be reclosed without any manual replacement. MCBs have the ability to protect against fault arising due to overheating or increase in temperature. The construction of an MCB is such that, it has a bimetallic strip. It is a combination of both magnetic and thermal tripping mechanisms that are implemented in most of MCBs. This is designed to trip within 2.5 milliseconds when an overcurrent fault arises. In case of temperature rise or overheating it may take 2 seconds to 2 minutes for the MCB to trip.

Other than circuit breakers, a distribution management is also important because of the following benefits:

  • Enabling leading critical grid controlling capabilities
  • Optimising the dynamic grid functioning
  • Enhanced outage response

Thus, it is very important that circuit breakers are a component of every home to provide for a greater degree of protection.

How to Calculate Amps, Volts and Watts

To start solving the problem, we need to know one simple “rule of thumb” formula. This formula will help us determine if all the electrical stuff on a particular circuit is overloading it. This formula also helps define some everyday terms and how they relate to one another. After all, light bulbs and space heaters are labeled in watts; tools and circuit breakers in amps; and our household electrical system in volts: How do they all fit together?

Voltage can most simply be described as the pressure under which electricity—a chain of electrons—moves. Most household current is pushed at 120 volts, though current to large electrical appliances is pushed at the higher pressure of 240 volts.

Amps (or amperes) is a measurement of the number of electrons the voltage pushes past a given point in
one second.

Watts is a unit of measurement for electrical power. It indicates how many electrons were pushed through an electric gadget to make it work. It’s what the electric company bills you for.

WHY ARE CIRCUIT BREAKERS SO IMPORTANT?

Considering the volatile nature of electricity, and the danger that it can pose on your property and health, safeguards are required throughout the circuit that prevent overloading and overheating. These essential electrical safety devices are known as circuit breakers. Basically, if an overload occurs within your home circuit, due to an increased demand for electricity, the circuit breaker or ‘fuse box’ is automatically triggered.

FUSES

Although surpassed by the circuit breaker, fuses are still found in many circuits and offer a line of defence against electrical overloads. When the circuit is operating effectively the fuse is an integral component of the electrical circuit and must be maintained for electricity to effectively flow. However, the fuse is designed to disintegrate when it heats up to a certain level, breaking the circuit and stopping the overflow of electricity before it damages your home. While this is an effective safety method, fuses are only able to be used once and must be replaced whenever they are put to work.

CIRCUIT BREAKERS

Circuit breakers on the other hand are able to be called upon numerous times when the current reaches dangerous levels. Circuit breakers incorporate a electromagnetic switch design which is triggered when the current increases to a volatile level. When an overload occurs, the increased current boosts the magnetic force of the switch and causes it to pull down the metal lever on the switch and cease to the flow of electricity to the house.

Circuit Breaker Tips

Knowing how to use a circuit breaker is important. The power may have been cut for a reason, so you want to be aware of potential overloads or electrical malfunctions. It’s important to know which branch circuit each breaker is connected to, so you can identify whether too many devices are connected in, for example, your kitchen or living room.

If you’re using the main breaker to shut off power to the whole house, switch off each individual breaker first, one at a time, and then flip the main circuit breaker off. To restore power, switch the main breaker on. Then reset each individual circuit breaker individually. Resetting them one at a time can avoid a sudden power surge.

Follow a similar procedure if the main circuit breaker trips. Whether this is due to a power surge, overload, or lightning strike, turn off all individual breakers so all circuits don’t turn on as soon as the main breaker is reset. When you do reset the main breaker, stand to the side, turn your head, and preferably wear safety glasses to protect yourself from potential sparks or flashes. Then turn one each circuit one at a time.

Bed Bugs Is Not A Problem Anymore

How to Find Bed Bugs

Bed Bug Behavior and Habit

Understanding the behavior of bed bugs (how they eat, live, and reproduce) will help you to find an infestation before it becomes established and to monitor for the presence of bed bugs after your home has been treated.

Feeding:

  • Appear to prefer to feed on humans, but will feed on other mammals and birds as well.
  • Will readily travel 5-20 feet from established hiding places (called harborage) to feed on a host.
  • Even though they are primarily active at night, if hungry they will seek hosts in full daylight.
  • Feeding can take 3-12 minutes.
  • The rusty or tarry spots found on bed sheets or in bug hiding places are because 20% of the time adults and large nymphs will void remains of earlier blood meals while still feeding.

Bedbugs

Where Bed Bugs Hide

Bedbugs may enter your home undetected through luggage, clothing, used beds and couches, and other items. Their flattened bodies make it possible for them to fit into tiny spaces, about the width of a credit card. Bedbugs do not have nests like ants or bees, but tend to live in groups in hiding places. Their initial hiding places are typically in mattresses, box springs, bed frames, and headboards where they have easy access to people to bite in the night.

When Bedbugs Bite

Bedbugs are active mainly at night and usually bite people while they are sleeping. They feed by piercing the skin and withdrawing blood through an elongated beak. The bugs feed from three to 10 minutes to become engorged and then crawl away unnoticed.

How to Check for Bedbugs

Investigate piles of clothes. Look at the clothes in your closet or laundry room and look at the fabric for signs of bed bugs. If you suspect a severe infestation, lay a white sheet on the floor. Then take clothes out of baskets or the closet and shake them over the sheet. Check the sheet for bed bugs, excrement, or eggs.

Peel back loose wallpaper and look behind it. Gently pull loose wallpaper or peeling paint away from the wall and look for bed bugs. You should also remove any picture frames or mirrors and check behind them. Bed bugs can hide in the joints of mirrors or frames.

Lift up rugs to look for bed bugs underneath. Move furniture to the edge of the room so you can peel back rugs. Look for signs of bed bugs on the underside of the rug and on the floor itself.

Look under lamps, toys, or clocks in the room. Although bed bugs usually prefer to hide where people rest for long periods of time, they’ll also hide around objects in your room. Check under lamps, clocks, laptops, toys, cushions, and pillows.

Inspect hiding places in electrical items. If the room is heavily infested with bed bugs, they may hide in the crevices around electrical items. Remove electrical outlet covers and look behind them. You should also check near lamp or computer cords and inside wall-mounted lamps.

How To Check for Bed Bugs: Common Hiding Spots and Signs

Catching Bed Bugs in their Hiding Spots

Earlier, we discussed how to tell if you have bed bugs based on their hiding spots. So how do you catch them? Since bed bugs are afraid of the light, they are difficult to eliminate since they dwell in dark areas. You need to carefully search every darkened corner of your home to catch them.

How to Properly Remove Bed Bugs from Fabrics?

You can instantly remove any bedbugs from fabric using the same method that you use to inspect your mattress and bedding. When considering how to tell if you have bed bugs, keep in mind that although bed bugs don’t have the ability to jump or fly, they are fast travelers. Usually, they crawl onto people’s clothes and attach until they find potential bedding to infest.

Examining Bed Bugs on Mattresses

Once bedbugs are satisfied with their meal, they go back to their protected space until they are ready to feed again. The major feeding areas for bedbugs are mattresses straps, buttons, creases, and tags. When looking for how to find bed bugs, take note that these areas are convenient since as it is where they can easily locate and attach to their victims.

Checking Bed Bugs: Bedding

If there’s one thing that bedbugs despise, it’s light. That’s why they always strike during the night when their victim is fast asleep in an infested bed. It is impossible to catch living bed bugs in your bedding. However, when figuring out how to check for bed bugs, there are signs that will tell you if they are feeding on your skin. These signs include the following.

Checking for Bed Bugs: Bites

Bed bugs bite into a human by inserting two tubes into its skin. One tube secretes saliva that makes the bite area numb. This also thins the blood, so it’s easier for the bug to consume it. The second tube is known as the feeding tube and is utilized for one purpose only; sipping the blood from the human.

How to Find Bed Bugs

Commercial and Multi-Unit Buildings

Bug control in commercial facilities or multi-unit dwellings may be considerably more expensive than treatment for other forms of pests. This is because of the more extensive cooperation required by the staff or renters in preventing the spread from one area to the other, as well as the expenses incurred in treating multiple areas instead of one room or single-family home.

The Costs of Prevention and Treatment

These bugs can be expensive pests to control and treat. Regardless of the costs to homeowners, renters and property managers, they also extract a considerable toll on society. Those afflicted with an invasion may lose work or productivity due to sleep deprivation and anxiety. There may be healthcare costs from these issues, or from allergic reactions or infections due to bites.

Monitors

Monitoring devices that attract bugs through heat and the release of carbon dioxide may also be employed. These are not traps that are intended to eradicate the bugs. They are used to estimate population size, to help determine treatment plans or to determine if treatment has been successful.

Pesticides

Judicious use of approved pesticides is part of a professional treatment plan, and these chemicals can be applied with precision and training unavailable to unlicensed applicators.

Vacuuming

Vacuuming is also part of a professional control treatment, using special machines outfitted with HEPA filters which contain the bugs to prevent re-infestation of the treated area or others.

According to Florida dog bite law,the most common defendant is the owner of the dog; however, the degree of the owner’s liability varies between cases. In most cases, the owner is responsible for the dog’s actions regardless of whether they have any prior knowledge of the dog’s tendency to bite.

There are two limited exceptions to this rule in certain states. First, if the dog is provoked, the victim’s own negligence will be taken into account when determining damages. Second, if the bite occurs on the owner’s property, they usually cannot be found liable (unless the victim is under 6 years old) if there is an easily readable warning sign in a prominent place.

What Is the Statute of Limitations for Dog Bite Claims?

A statute of limitations is a law that states the amount of time following an incident the victim has to file a claim. After this time period expires, victims of dog bites may no longer bring their claims. Because of the statute of limitations, dog bite victims should not wait to contact an attorney in regard to their claim.

TYPES OF DOG BITE LAWSUITS

There are a few different types of dog bite lawsuits and determining which general category your claim falls under is an important first step.

  • AGGRESSIVE INCIDENTS

This category encompasses what most people think of when they think of a dog attack—a dog breaks loose from a leash and aggressively bites the victim. Cases may differ based on the type of dog, as some insurance policies will exclude coverage for breeds considered to be dangerous, like Pit Bulls or Rottweilers.

  • NON-AGGRESSIVE INCIDENTS

Dogs can bite without displaying any aggression at all. If not properly trained, a dog may nip when it gets excited, and depending on the breed, these bites may be enough to cause injury.

  • DOG ON DOG AGGRESSION

A dog acting aggressively can cause injuries to the people who happen to be nearby, as well as to the dog itself. The law may cover pain and suffering for humans, but it will not cover it for dogs.

WHAT TO DO AFTER BEING BITTEN BY A DOG

When you are bitten by a dog, it is important to follow a few steps to keep yourself as healthy as possible and that, from a legal standpoint, you have all you need to seek compensation:

  1. SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION

First and foremost, address your immediate medical needs. Because dog bites can lead to serious complications, it is important that you visit a doctor. Even a bite that seems relatively harmless can lead to infection if left untreated.

  1. DOCUMENT THE INCIDENT

Documenting the incident can be useful if you file a compensation claim. Some pieces of information worth documenting are:

  • File a dog bite report
  • Pictures of your injuries and the place where the incident took place,
  • Dog owner contact information
  • Details of any witnesses to the attack
  • Medical bills
  • Lost wages

Generally speaking, the better documentation you have, the easier it will be to assess the amount of compensation you deserve.

  1. SPEAK WITH AN ATTORNEY

Finally, it is important that you contact a dog bite attorney. The laws in each state vary and consulting with an attorney who has experience in this area of law may help you in your pursuit of compensation.

ONTARIO DOG ATTACK LAWS

In Ontario, the Dog Owners’ Liability Act is the law that governs who will be responsible when a dog bites someone. Ontario places strict liability on the owners of dogs that attack other people or animals. The owner of a dog will be found “strictly liable” for the injuries caused by his or her dog on others. The law does not permit for a dog owner to dispute who was at fault or whether the dog had a tendency to bite. In the end, the dog owner is automatically financially responsible for covering your damages. In other words, under Ontario dog bite law, a dog that bites is the absolute responsibility of its owner. This concept is called strict liability under dog bite law in Ontario.

An property owner can also be responsible for a dog bite or dog attack in Ontario under a law called the Occupiers’ Liability Act. The Act mandates that anyone that owns or occupies a premise in Ontario needs to reasonably protect their visitors from foreseeable harm. Anyone that owns or occupies a premise in Ontario, whether a farm, a residential home or a any type of establishment – owes a duty of care to ensure that anyone that steps foot on their property is safeguarded against danger and defects on the property, including vicious dogs with a propensity to bite and attack.

Find The Best Tile Roof For Your House

Tile Roofing

In some areas of the country, tile roofing is quite common. Its distinctive appearance can be seen sparsely in many regions, but in the Southwest, tile roofing is practically a part of the landscape, giving a unique and identifiable look to the area. Tile roofs are initially a lot more costly to install than asphalt shingle, metal, or wood shake roofs, but they also last much longer. Depending on the quality, a tile roof may last 50 to 70 years–or even more! When you compare that kind of longevity to the durability of some asphalt shingles (in some situations, only 10 or 15 years), it’s easy to see how an investment in tile can pay off in the long run.

Characteristics of Tile Roofing

Traditional clay tile roofs are very heavy, and sometimes require more structural reinforcement than other roofing materials. However, tile is now offered in new lightweight versions which can be used on most structures without additional reinforcement.

While many homeowners prefer the look of traditional Spanish and Mediterranean styles, tile roofing is also available in exact replications of shake, wood shingle, and slate. It can be found in a wide spectrum of colors, ranging from the well-known adobe red to colors that are reminiscent of moss green, driftwood grey, and ocean blue.

Benefits of Tile Roofs

Aside from the obvious aesthetic appeal and incredibly long life expectancy of tile roofs, there are several other benefits of choosing this material over a less costly one. To start with, tile roofs perform better under harsh conditions than many other roofing materials. They resist damage caused by hurricanes, earthquakes, and other weather extremes better than most other options. Roof tile is also fireproof, and carries a class-A rating.

Tile roofing is a great insulator, which helps to keep homes warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Accessories for tile roofs are widely assorted, including bird stops, cloaked attic vents, hip starters, apexes, and multiple other options. Tile also has the unique ability of being able to accent or complement the exterior color or finish of practically any home or building.

Even more attractive than its outward appearance is the fact that tile gives an air of quality to a structure that can be very appealing to prospective buyers. When combined with the range of styles and finishes, a tile roof not only adds to the beauty of a structure, it can also add to its resale value.

Drawbacks of Tile Roofs

Obviously, the biggest drawback is its initial installation cost. When compared to asphalt shingles or even basic metal roofing, tile roofs can cost several times as much to put up. They are, however, similar in price to slate roofing–the only other kind of material that can hold up as long or surpass the life expectancy of tile. Additionally, tile roofs (and slate roofs, as well) are not only heavy, but brittle. Not only might they require added structural reinforcement to install, but when a problem does occur, they can be difficult to work on since the individual tiles can break under the weight of a worker.

The Good and Bad of Tile Roofing

Benefits of Tile Roofing

Overall, tile roofing is a popular choice due to its durability, protection and ventilation factors, energy savings, and long-lasting performance. Additional benefits include the following:

  • Longevity – the lifespan of a properly installed tile roof by a professional roofing contractor can range from 50 to 100 years giving it a significant advantage over a less expensive material such as asphalt.
  • Durability – tiles have a high capacity for enduring sustained winds, they are not susceptible to biting or chewing insects, and tiles are non-combustible.
  • Curbside appeal – tiles are available in a variety of colors, sizes, and shapes. They are designed to complement all types of architectural styles and blend with any exterior paint color.
  • Concrete or clay tile – whichever type of material is selected, tiles not only retain their color, they are one of the easiest roofing materials to install. Tile roofs also require minimal maintenance.
  • Increased property value – because the material is energy efficient and can be recycled, the home is considered “green” which increases the property’s value.
  • Marketing – a home with a tile roof can be marketed with a focus on potential buyers interested in an environmentally friendly property.
  • Selling -.for potential buyers, a home with a tile roof is an investment that saves the out-of-pocket expense of a new roof due to the lifespan of tile.
  • Energy savings – air flows naturally beneath the tiles resulting in a well-ventilated home that is warmer during winter cold snaps and cooler during the heat of summer. Because of the natural ventilation, monthly energy bills are lower.

Negatives of Tile Roofing

Of the many roofing materials, such as asphalt shingles, wood shakes, slate, rubber, metal and tile, the cost per square foot varies considerably based on the material itself as well as the region where the home is located.

  • Costly – the estimated cost of clay tiles ranges between $11 per square foot or over $15 per square foot. Concrete tiles are generally less expensive. Find the cost of a tile roof using an online roofing calculator based on the home’s square footage and zip code.
  • Installation – while tile is one of the easiest materials to install, the project requires the expertise of a licensed and bonded roofer experienced in cutting and installing tiles.
  • Structurally sound – if the current roofing material is not tile, the home will need to be inspected to determine if it can bear the weight of the tiles, or if support beams must be installed. In some cases, a tile roof may not be an option.
  • Quality material – a tile roof can outlast standard underlayment, screws, nails, flashing and fasteners. This means the contractor should use only those materials that also have a long lifespan, which could increase the cost of the new roof.
  • Replacement and repair – should the flashing or underlayment deteriorate, depending on the extent and severity of the damage, it’s possible all the tiles would need to be removed.
  • Damage – tiles are sturdy but can be broken especially by someone accessing the roof who is not skilled at walking on the material, Broken tiles need to be repaired by a professional roofer to avoid additional damage to the roof.

Types of Tile Roof Repairs

  1. Shingles

There are 2 main types of asphalt shingles Architectural or Dimensional which are a premium grade of asphalt shingle roofing. These shingles are thicker and have a distinctive, textured appearance.  Then there are “3-tab” shingles named that for the 3 tab flaps with quarter-inch grooves between them in each panel Both styles of shingle are available in several different colors, With proper maintenance, your shingle roof can last for 20 years or longer.

The most common signs that your shingles are in need of repair is leakage in the roof and cracked or curling shingle. Repairing a leak or replacing damaged or missing shingles is not an easy task and should be done by a professional. One wrong step could have devastating effects on your financial and physical health. Call AABCO Roofing to take care of all your roofing needs

  1. Concrete Roof Tiles

When it comes to durability, concrete roof tiles outweigh its competitors. This form of tiling can provide excellent protection against the harshest environments including wind and hail – while showing minimal to no sign of damage. With the correct maintenance, concrete roof tiles can last up to 50 years. Concrete roof tiles require minimal maintenance – in the case of damage, only the affected area of tiling need be replaced not the entire roof. This makes concrete tile an economical option for any home owner.

Repairing concrete roof tiles can appear to be a simple Saturday afternoon DIY project but doing so can cost you more than just time and money. Tiles need to be removed to get to expose and repair the leak. Removing tiles incorrectly can result in more damage to your roofs underlayment as well as badly broken tiles and broken concrete roof tiles cannot simply be glued together. A repair requires physically climbing onto the roof and repairing or replacing the damaged area. Always consult a professional roofer like AABCO Roofing to prevent further damage to your roof or worse, an injury to yourself.

  1. Clay Roof Tiles

Clay tiles are significantly lighter than cement tiles. The tiles can provide sufficient protection against the elements as they are resistant to heat, water, and fire. Clay tiles are unique in that they are eco-friendly yet durable enough to stand the test of time and can last for decades without need of roof replacement.

Repairing small cracks to clay roof tiles is not as easy as many home owners think. Small repairs require the cracked area to be scrubbed with a wire brush and then filled with a plastic roofing cement or solution to seal the area. Doing so requires precision and knowledge of the type of repair required. Clay tile roof leaks require a skilled roofer to identify the leaking area, this is a task that should be left to the professionals as the source of the leak could be from a membrane beneath the tile. When you hire a professional roofer, you can rest assured that you will be receiving expert advice and that a small repair will not result in a bigger one. A professional will start by assessing your roof and can provide a comprehensive plan to repair your clay roof tiles.

HOW LONG DOES A TILE ROOF LAST?

A tile roof built using today’s standards and guidelines should last a minimum of 15 years with most lasting up to 30 Years. There are a lot of determining factors how long do tile roofs last in Arizonasuch as environmental and what underlayment is used. Phoenix has a unique climate and you need to make sure the underlayment you choose will stand up to the heat and the rapid temperature changes we experience during the summer Monsoons. Another important factor is pests such as birds. Nothing will ruin your roof faster than the acid in bird droppings. The best advice I can give a homeowner is the moment you see birds nesting on your roof, you should get them off as quickly as possible before they nest and consider your roof their home. If you have a bird problem already, call in a bird removal expert – they cost a lot less than a new roof.

Roof debris is another item that will shorten the life span of your roofing system. Keep trees and leaves off of your roof. Roofs are designed for water to flow down and off quickly. how long do roof tiles lastDebris, especially in the valleys, can prevent water from flowing and create a water dam. Water dams can allow water to back up and flow under the roof system, causing a leak. See Nut’s and Bolts of a tile roof for more information. If you use a quality underlayment, and keep your roof clean from pests, debris and tree limbs, your roof could very well last 40 years or more before it needs to be replaced again.

Why You Have a Tile Roof Leak

Tile roofs are used in every weather climate around the world, are the oldest and most popular roofs lasting 25 – 50 years, depending on which way they are installed. Most roofs have flashings designed to keep water on top of the tiles, relying on the underlayment only as secondary protection and lasting 50 years.

In Florida, more than 90% of tile roofs do not have flashings, allowing water to run under the tiles and counting solely on the underlayment to keep the building dry. Water running under the tile will break down the underlayment and shorten its life by cracking and deteriorating, eventually allowing leaking. That’s why tile roofs in Florida start having leaks at year 5 and are replaced at year 25.

The Best Way To Make A Loading Services

Warehouse Efficiency Tips from Loading Dock Services Companies

Adopt a lean inventory

One of the most effective ways to improve productivity is by adopting a lean inventory. The premise behind this is simple: focus on what you need and nothing else. In doing so, you can reduce or completely get rid of safety stocks. You can also work on getting suppliers to deliver smaller quantities of items more frequently.

Maximize your available space

Instead of planning an expansion, consider making use of your vertical space. Add taller storage shelves and proper equipment to store and pick material. It keeps you in the same square footage, which eliminates the need for higher expansion costs.

Also, you need to think about the shelving used. Placing small items on pallet racks wastes valuable space and makes it easier to misplace them. And rather than using the same racks for all your items, try using a variety of shelving for different products to get the most out of your square footage.

Think about employee comfort

Employees are the backbone of any organization. Sometimes it can be easy to forget these people when you’re only focusing on the operations. Do little things to make your workplace more employee-friendly.

If your warehouse has cement floors, anti-fatigue mats should be placed where the people stand most of the time. If the work area is quiet, try playing music. Research has shown that music increases productivity. When it comes to controlling the climate, it is advised to get space heaters or fans for the employees.

Keep workstations organized

You can improve productivity by organizing workstations. This way, your workers won’t waste precious time searching for tools and equipment because they’re easy to find.

Helpful tip: implement the 5S Method that so many loading dock services companies use: Sort, Set In Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain. This strategy is designed to reduce errors, improve organization and safety, and avoid clutter in the work area.

Simplify processes to reduce costs and touches

Have you been following the same practices for so many years? If you want a better product and order flow, you might need to change things up. Take a fresh look at all the steps involved in the product flow and process of order fulfillment. Generally, fewer steps lead to fewer touches, which equates to reduced costs.

Improving warehouse productivity can be easy—as long as you have the right systems in place. It’s also important to have a loading dock services company you can trust to ensure smooth operations in your warehouse. By following these simple tips, you’ll increase your warehouse efficiency in no time.

How To Load A Shipping Container

You may find this information useful when loading your container.

Inspect the container carefully before loading anything inside. Be sure there are no holes in the container BEFORE you allow the driver to leave.

Start with the large and heavy items like appliances and load them on the floor against the front wall of the container.

Continue loading heavier items on the floor and towards the front of the container, placing lighter items on top.

Place mattresses along the sides of the container but keep one to load at the rear of the container in front of the doors

Pack the items tightly so nothing moves. Work your way along in tiers loading from bottom to top. Look at the spaces in the tier and then go and look for an item to fill that space. Sometimes you can use an empty box, pillows, blankets or even soft toys to fill in the gaps.

Packing and loading the container well is the key to getting your shipment in good shape the other end.

Put a box of things you will need at destination at the back so you get it first off when unloading. Things in this box may include a few toys for the kids, a knife to help you unpack, tea bags, coffee mugs, glasses, a radio, cleaning material and gloves.

Boxes are easy to carry and easy to stack; pack as many items as you can into boxes. Try to use newer boxes; reused cartons are more likely to collapse during shipping.

When in doubt, put another layer of packing material around your items, better safe than sorry!

You might find it helpful to write the contents on the outside of each carton. When you reach your destination you will know where each carton goes.

Use blankets, bubble wrap and cardboard to protect items from rubbing against each other. Blankets, bubble wrap and cardboard can also be used to fill in any empty spaces. It is important that everything fits in snug and tight so that nothing shifts during the ocean transit.

If necessary you can tie items to the sides of the container with straps. There are rings spaced throughout the container on the ceiling and floor, you will need to provide your own straps.

The floor of the container is made of wood. Feel free to make your own wooden braces to secure items within the container. You do not want any empty space in the container or your goods will shift during shipping.

There are two loading strategies:

Option 1: ‘Floor Load’ the container, keeping everything low to the ground. If the floor of the container is covered goods will not be able to shift from side to side.

Option 2: Build a ‘bulkhead’. Load the container from floor to ceiling, and then build a wall to keep the goods from falling into the open space. You can build the wall using plywood sheeting and 4×4 wood.

Important Reasons to Get Your Upholstery Cleaned

When you interact with your upholstery on a daily basis, its care and maintenance can often fall by the wayside. It’s extremely important, however, to give your upholstered furnishings the same kind of care and attention you pay to your bedding and clothing.

The thought of dry cleaning upholstery can be intimidating, because it often requires you to move your furniture, albeit temporarily, to a dry cleaners’ storefront. This could be challenging, especially if you drive a smaller vehicle. Some cleaners, however, may be able to assist you with this by arranging for pickup, or even by providing in-home services.

It can also be challenging to determine which type of cleaning is correct for your furniture. Some types of upholstery, for instance, need to be chemically dry cleaned, while steam extraction cleaning is more appropriate for others. Regardless of the type of cleaning method needed for your furniture, it’s still exceedingly important to not neglect upholstery cleaning.

Here are just a few reasons to regularly clean your upholstery:

Sanitation: One of the most significant reasons why you should pay for professional upholstery cleaning is for sanitary reasons. Furniture can accumulate oils, bacteria and fungi that could pose a substantial health risk to you and your family members or guests.

Allergies: Furniture can also collect allergens, especially if its located near a heating vent or window. These could exacerbate a number of uncomfortable symptoms, including itchiness, dryness in the throat and sneezing. You can help alleviate your allergy symptoms by paying for upholstery cleaning.

Pet dander: Sometimes, your furry friends are just too cute to keep off of the couch. If this is the case for you, you should regularly clean your furniture’s upholstery. The fabric may collect pet hair and dander that could exacerbate your allergy symptoms and cause substantial discomfort.

Hosting guests: When you host guests, they will be impressed by the cleanliness of your furniture if you’ve recently paid for upholstery cleaning. Additionally, you can keep your guests happy and healthy by regularly having your furniture cleaned by qualified professionals.

Appearance: One of the most significant benefits of paying for upholstery cleaning that you’ll experience is the fact that the appearance of your upholstered furniture will improve tremendously. Dark, oily spots will disappear, and the colors and brightness of your furniture will return to its original glory.

Our Upholstery Cleaning Process

For most upholstered furniture, we use a hot water extraction cleaning process. It provides a thorough rinsing of the fabric and with very little drying time. It effectively removes soil and dander leaving your fabric fresh, clean and comfortable. Some designer fabrics may require a dry-cleaning process and should not be cleaned with a water based method. Your Dalworth technician will do a pre-cleaning inspection of the fabric to check for color fastness and dimensional stability. You can rest assured that Dalworth will use the cleaning process that’s right for your upholstered fabrics.

UPHOLSTERY CLEANING SERVICES

Since you don’t walk on your upholstery with dirty shoes, you don’t track the dirt and grime from outdoors onto your upholstered fabrics. So it is only natural that you also don’t realize how heavily soiled your sofa, loveseat and chair can become.

Dead skin cells, oils, dust, and other contaminants collect on your upholstery, though, and will only be removed through a thorough professional cleaning.

This is not just a quick surface clean. Our process involves a thorough cleaning that involves hot water extraction to get as deep as possible.

We also offer furniture fabric protection which is applied after our deep and thorough cleaning. The protectant provides a clear layer that will help keep your furniture clean for an extended amount of time. It will also help in case of accidents by giving you time to clean before stains set in.

Upholstery Cleaners use the power of extraction to lift dirt and soil to the surface of your fabric upholstery where it is sucked away using our powerful system. Our solutions penetrate deep into the fiber, separating dirt and grime off of the fiber’s surface. Then we use hot water extraction to lift the dirty particles to the surface where they are instantly removed.
